This series is the second anime adaptation of Webster's novel, preceded by a Tatsunoko Production TV special in 1979 which was directed by future Superbook director Masakazu Higuchi. Insert Songs were also added to showcase the singing talents of Judy's voice actress, Mitsuko Horie. The plot is also fleshed out with additional story arcs and characters, which was necessary in order to transform a relatively short epistolary novel into a 40-episode series. The setting is roughly the same in terms of geography, but the time period changed from the Pre-World War I era to The Roaring '20s. In the novel, she is a college student in the anime, she is a high school student. Unfortunately, to my everlasting sorrow, I did not get amazing Spidey powers from this event.Despite sharing the main characters and many plot events, the anime series differs significantly from the novel in many ways. Who knows what worked or if my natural immune system won out, but after about an hour the red stuff started retreating back to the injection site, my breathing stabilized, and other than a sore swollen spot on my leg the symptoms were soon gone. For a while my breathing was shallow, my pupils were dilated, and I was getting very woozy-and I was a good hour or so from the nearest medical clinic. Never saw what it was, but I started going into shock. I got hit by something in my pants leg in the mountains near Mesa Verde once. The place had so many BWs you would have thought the local clinic would stock the antivenom, but I guess they were too poor to have it on hand. But there were others in the village who got bit by BWs and mainly just got sick. One guy I knew in a village in Sonora got bit by a Black Widow and died, because he had an allergic reaction and they were 1 hour from the closest clinic that had an antivenom. It depends on your body's general reactivity to the toxin and how compromised your immune system is when you get bit. Few people die from spider bites-even black widows and brown recluses-but as one person said to me, even if you don't die you might wish you did. Mostly people just react with a small inflammation, but sometimes people are allergic to the toxins and have more of a reaction. Oh, many types of spiders indeed bite people. I'm good, right? Just go on with my evening as planned, right? The bite area looks fine exactly like any other spider bite, although I've never noticed a spider bite hurt like this one did. Not quite tingly or cold/numb, but almost (could be my overactive sense of drama, of course!) Also a bit of a mild ache in my wrist. Remembered the spider (which besides being 'dead', I thought Daddy long legs don't bite.) and realized it must have been 'stuck' to my hand by it's teeth!Īnyway, I washed my hand, put on polysporin and took a Benadryl since my arm is feeling a bit funny. I tried to shake it off, thinking web silk was making him stick to me or something and finally brushed it off.Ī few minutes later my hand felt stinging and itchy and I saw a small bump where I'd clearly been bitten by a bug.

I was putting packing peanuts into bags to take to the UPS guy in SO for recycling and what I thought was a dead daddy long legs got stuck to the top of my hand.
